A really challenging canopy
The ambulance canopy at Lakes Region General Hospital was challenging from the start. The center piece of this canopy, 30 in. diameter and 2 in. thick pipes, rarely used in structural steel projects, were nowhere near to be found.
Securing the material proved to be a procurement challenge. The pipes had to be imported from Korea and sent toTexas to be curved according to specifications, and than rerouted to our plant for preparation work
Furthermore, the round and curved shape of the pipes made the connection extremely complex. Our connection engineering team rose to the occasion and, due to the complexity, some rework was performed at the job site to make final adjustments.
Our Time Engineering team constantly altered work flow to accommodate constant small modifications to the original plans in addition to coordinating with the other trades for beam penetration and miscellaneous steel requirements.
Three quarters of the way through the canopy project, Canatal had to replace the erector “in extremis” to insure that the project could be completed as scheduled. We still managed to deliver on time.”
Again, Canatal adapted to fluctuating circumstances and delivered.
